Read More	“The Herald” (Piedmont, W.Va.), Friday 28 June 1895: Adeleine Eliza Tonry, wife of Mr. James Tonry of Westernport, and aged 34 years, died at her home on Main Street, on Friday last, after an illness of some months, which illness she had borne with exemplary Christian patience, and which had made her the care of kind relatives and friends who sought to minister to her in her every want and wish. Mrs. Tonry had passed all her girlhood and womanhood among the people of Westernport, being the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bishop, old residents of the community, and much beloved by all who came with their circle of acquaintance. Mrs. Tonry herself had a large acquaintanceship, and was especially valued for her gentleness in manners, and the sweet disposition of heart that made for herself so many true friends. In her home she was especially dear to all, being a _ wife, and a most devoted mother to her young son of 12 or more years of age, and whose welfare she was so much interested. The husband and child have the heartfelt sympathy of all the family connections, as well as of those of the large circle of friends among whom they moved. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, the same being conducted at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Piedmont. The pastor of the church, the Rev. Harry Boggs officiated, assisted by Rev. C. F. Moore of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and by Rev Wm. B. Owens, a local preacher in the former church. The discourse was delivered by Rev. Mr. Boggs whose remarks were most appropriate for the occasion, and were attentively listened to by a very large audience, which had gathered to pay respect to the memory of the deceased. At the request of the family, Rev. Mr. Owens accompanied the reading of the scripture lesson a few very pleasing words directed to the memory of Mrs. Tonry. The music was by the choir, and was sweetly rendered. The pallbearers were Messrs. James Hose, P. T. Lacey, J. W. Hughes, R. T. Souders, and Robert Rose, Luther Wright, John F. Seaber, and Wm. B. Owens. Several very choice floral tributes accompanied the remains, there being a beautiful design ‘gates a-jar’ surrounded in two snow white doves, a pillow with the word ‘sister’ and a number of other pieces. The interment was in Philos Cemetery in Westernport. Among friends and relatives attending from out of town were the following: Wm. Baker and Joseph Johns, of Mt. Savage; Richard Tangie, of Philadelphia; Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor, and Mr. John Bishop, of Cumberland; Mrs. J. G. Williams, of Washington, and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. W. Brown, of Elkins.
