Description	:	Adeline Evelyn Herwig was born July 14, 1926 in Cromwell, MN the daughter of Charles Henry Martwig and Gertrude Ann Gerash Martwig. She grew up with three brothers, Art, Oscar (Bud) and Mike and one sister, Bertha in Strawberry Point. She graduated valedictorian from Strawberry Point High School. She married Ray Herwig, Jr. on June 30, 1948, and lived in Wadena, IA where Henry, Holly, Billy and Shally were born and began their lives. She grew up with three brothers, Art, Oscar (Bud) and Mike and one sister, Bertha in Strawberry Point. She graduated valedictorian from Strawberry Point High School. She married Ray Herwig, Jr. on June 30, 1948, and lived in Wadena, IA where Henry, Holly, Billy and Shally were born and began their lives. Moving to Cedar Rapids in 1957, the Herwigs made their home at 1112 Tenth St. NW and maintained residence there for fifty years. Family, friends and neighbors were always welcomed and no one was ever a stranger. Adeline always had coffee brewing and could feed one to one hundred on short notice. After Ray's retirement, the couple refinished furniture as a hobby and enjoyed hosting family and friends in their home. Ray and Adeline celebrated their golden anniversary in 1998, surrounded by hundreds of well-wishers. Ray passed away February 11, 2000 and Adeline struggled to carry on without her lifelong partner. She was always there for her children and grandchildren and greatly enjoyed hosting family gatherings. Adeline passed away peacefully Wednesday morning April 7, 2010 at Higley Mansion Care Center. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church by Pastor Gary Hoyt. Burial: 2 p.m. Wadena Cemetery, Wadena, IA. Friends may visit Friday from 3 to 7 at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Adeline is survived by her four children and their families, Henry (Sandie) Herwig of Coralville, Cullin (Anne) Herwig and their son, Benjamin of Ankeny and Kelly Herwig of Iowa City; Holly (John) Becker of Cedar Rapids and A.J. Becker of Cedar Falls; Billy (Cathy) Herwig of Monticello and Neal Herwig of Minneapolis, MN; Shally (Dick) Garin of Cedar Rapids and Deana (Ryan) Maley and son, Garin of Omaha, NE and Kyle Garin of Cedar Rapids. Her husband, father, mother, sister and brothers preceded her in death.
