Description | : | US Navy Rear Admiral. In 1939 Lieutenant Commander Clark was a Naval Aviator and test pilot who on August 30, 1939 flying a twin engined Lockheed XJO-3 aircraft equipped with tricycle landing gear, made 11 landings and take-offs from the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Lexington making him the first to do this with a twin engined aircraft. This information would be instrumental to the success of the Doolittle mission a few years later. On November 25, 1941 he became the Commanding Officer of VPB-197 Squadron at Camp Kearney, California. In 1960 he was the Commander Air Force, Atlantic Fleet. |
