Description	:	Adolph J. Lenius, 89, of Waverly, Iowa, died Friday evening, February 15, 2002, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital of pneumonia. He was born on November 18, 1912, in Washington Township, Bremer County, Iowa, near Waverly, the son of Herman and Sophia (Harms) Lenius. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly, and began his schooling at a country school near his home. He then attended St. Paul's Parochial School, Waverly. Lenius, 89, of Waverly, Iowa, died Friday evening, February 15, 2002, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital of pneumonia. He was born on November 18, 1912, in Washington Township, Bremer County, Iowa, near Waverly, the son of Herman and Sophia (Harms) Lenius. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly, and began his schooling at a country school near his home. He then attended St. Paul's Parochial School, Waverly. After his formal education, Adolph began farming with his father. On September 24, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther Luhring at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly. The couple made their home with his parents until 1942 when they moved to their own farm in Douglas Township. In 1961, they moved from the farm and to their home in Waverly, and their son and daughter-in-law, John and Dianne, stayed on the farm. Adolph continued to farm with his son, and did not officially retire until the early 1980's. Esther died on December 21, 1996, and in January of 2000 Adolph moved to the Clarksville Community Nursing Home where he had since lived. He was a life long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly. Adolph enjoyed his large flower and vegetable garden, raising produce for his family and friends. He was an avid reader, a passion he continued right up to the present. Adolph is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John W. & Dianne Lenius of Waverly; his granddaughter, Kathleen Lenius and Rod VanderWerf of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grandsons, John K. & Tereasa Lenius of Tripoli, Iowa, Kevin Lenius of Waverly; two great granddaughters, Amber and Nicole Lenius of Tripoli; one brother and his wife, Raymond & Dorothy Lenius of Shell Rock, Iowa; and by one sister-in-law, Margaret, Mrs. Lorenze Lenius of Waverly He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; his parents; and two brothers, Harold and Lorenze. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm on Monday, February 18, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly, with Pastor Joyce Sandberg officiating. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Friends may also call for one hour at church on Monday prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to the family or to the donor's choice.
