Description	:	ARMY VETERAN-1ST LT WW2 Adrian Robert Dempster was born March 27, 1916 in Mankato, MN to Arthur and Veva (Churchill) Dempster. Adrian and his family moved from their Stanley County homestead to Sioux Falls when he was four years old. He attended Hawthorne Elementary and Washington High School. He graduated from Augustana College in 1938. Adrian worked with his father at Dempster – Shotwell Company, until serving in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant during WWII. They made their home in Sioux Falls, where Hazel was a teacher at Washington High School. Hazel passed away February 22, 1992. Adrian was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church where he served as moderator and a member of the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Sioux Falls Life Underwriters Association where he served as President and State Secretary. He received the Life Underwriters Award for community service. He was very proud of his 56-year service in the Downtown Lions Club. Adrian married Evelyn E. Schemmel on March 30, 1996 in Sioux Falls, three days after his 80th birthday. Adrian and Evelyn celebrated their 110th month anniversary in May 2005. . Adrian was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Hazel. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church, Augustana College Scholarship Fund, and the Lion's Sight and Service Foundation. Memorial Service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005 First Congregational Church Sioux Falls, South Dakota Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave. and visitation will continue on Friday.
