Aeilt attained the age of 79 years, 3 months and 3 days. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Among the pioneer builders in this community whose activities contributed to the march of progress along many lines, was A. A. Freseman. Coming here at the time of the founding of Lennox he had a share in its early developments and for over half a century took an active interest in its progress and welfare. Many a beautiful grove of trees and many an orchard and beauty spot in this section has grown from trees and shrubs transplanted from the Lennox Nursery, which Mr. Freseman founded in the early 80's. Aeilt A. Freseman was born near Newark, N. J. on September 15, 1853. Following the death of his father A. J. Freseman in 1854, his mother left America and returned to Germany with her 11 month baby boy. There he lived until ten years of age. In the meantime his mother remarried and in the year of 1864 migrated back to America and settled in Freeport, 111. There they resided for three years and then moved to Grundy County, Iowa, where Mr. Freseman continued to make his home for about ten years. In the fall of 1878 he came to Sioux Falls as a salesman for a nursery in Iowa. Following a short stay in Sioux Falls he came to the German settlers southwest of Lennox. There he taught school a few months during the winter of 1878-79. Shortly after he filed on a homestead 4 1/2 miles northwest of Marion Junction. He assisted with the building of the Milwaukee Road at that point and then in the late fall the same year came to Lennox and sold farm machinery for an implement firm at Marion. In January, 1880 he erected a small store building and went into the hardware and implement business. On September 17, 1881 he was united in marriage to Tetta Harmina Wierenga. To this union was born seven children. Mrs. Freseman was a native of Germany, born at Bingum in September 1862 coming to America with her parents at the age of six years, and settling first at Ackley, Iowa, and in 1878 came to Dakota territory, locating near the now city of Lennox. In 1883 Mr. Freseman founded the Lennox Nursery which he continued to operate until his death. He was actively interested in the business life of the community during his residence here of half a century. He served as a member and chairman of the local board of education, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Past Master of the local order. He served as postmaster during Cleveland's last administration. Children living are Marcia, Merril, Alan, Clarence, Cora and Mrs. E. J. Smiley.
