Agnes Anna Reding, daughter of Anna (Thome) and Dominic Reding, was born on her parent's farm southeast of Hoven July 25, 1918. She attended St. Bernard's Parochial School in Hoven through Eighth grade and then worked on the family farm. She also spent a year working in Chicago. Agnes married Joseph Michael Seurer on Oct. 1, 1947 at Hoven. They lived and farmed south of Hoven until Dec. 1977 when they retired and moved into Hoven. In 1998 they moved to the Selby Good Samaritan Center where Agnes lived the remainder of her life. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St. Anthony's Altar Society, St. Mary's Society, Hoven Senior Citizens Center and the Hoven American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included gardening, baking, quilting, playing cards, entertaining her grandchildren, and socializing over coffee. Her grandchildren remember her fresh baked bread and treasure her hand-made quilts. Agnes looked forward to sharing holidays with her family and the Fourth of July was always a favorite. Mrs. Seurer is survived by one son - Mike Seurer and his wife Peggy of Hoven; four daughters - JoAnn Griese and her husband Dwayne of Woodbridge, Va., Elizabeth Christianson of Astoria, Karen Goetz and her husband Thomas of Milbank, and Carol Gill and her husband Dale of Java; one sister - Frances Lyon of Reseda, Calif.; 14 grandchildren - Kristi Kobleur of Geneva, Ill., Jen Bouska and Keith Seurer of Aberdeen, Rebecca Gunnare of Tyler, Minn., Amanda Christianson of Sioux Falls, Valerie Goetz of Brookings, Leah Seurer and Joe Seurer of Vermillion, Jon Griese of Virginia, Brian Gill and Jared Gill of Java, Michael Goetz of Seattle, Wash., Jesse Christianson of Astoria, and Steven Gill of Winner.; and 11 great-grandchildren; and her wonderful caregivers at the Selby Good Samaritan Center. Family members preceding her in death include her parents, her husband, Joe, in 1998, one son-in-law (Ted Christianson), seven brothers (Jake, Peter, John, Henry, William, Matt, and Clarence), and two sisters - (Kate Poeppel and Margaret Zweber). Casketbearers will be Agnes's grandsons. Miller Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements. Published in the Aberdeen News on 9/25/2005.
