Description	:	Killed by Falling Roof One of the Russians, a young woman, living in the settlement just east of the reservation, came to her death in a peculiar manner last Saturday. She was sitting in her house--a sod house with a roof made of poles and dirt--when the entire roof, from some unknown cause, fell in crushing her beneath the dirt and timbers. Read More	Killed by Falling Roof One of the Russians, a young woman, living in the settlement just east of the reservation, came to her death in a peculiar manner last Saturday. She was sitting in her house--a sod house with a roof made of poles and dirt--when the entire roof, from some unknown cause, fell in crushing her beneath the dirt and timbers. There were several other women near the scene of the disaster; and their cries quickly brought out the entire settlement. The debris was immediately cleared away; but she expired in a few minutes after being released. No post mortum examination was held; but from what we can gather from the Russians, we presume her neck was broken, as a large stick of timber was removed from directly across it. The funeral took place Sunday. This accident can be attributed to carelessness and a lack of knowledge in constructing the truly Western institution--a sod house. If not properly constructed, they are a very dangerous residence; and we frequently hear of similar accidents. Numbers of the Russians are living in sod houses; and the greater portion of them are unsafe.
