AGNES LUELLA TROGSTAD was born August 27, 1914 in South Fork Township, ND to H.C. and Gena (Texley) Trogstad. She was the oldest daughter of eight children and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Agnes went to grade school at South Fork Consolidated School. During her sophomore year she transferred to Hettinger High School and would graduate in 1932 from Lemmon High School. Being resourceful, Agnes held a job all through her high school years. Following graduation, Agnes attended a Business College in Lemmon and graduated with a Business degree. Agnes loved to dance and while attending a dance north of Thunder Hawk, SD, she met Arnold Molitor. Arnold told Agnes that night that he was going to marry her someday and on September 6, 1933 the two were united in marriage at Bison, SD. To that union was born three children; Allen, Aldene, and Arlis. Following their marriage, they purchased two gravel trucks and worked various construction jobs throughout the state hauling gravel. By 1942 they had saved up their money and were finally able to purchase a farm northeast of Lemmon. They farmed, ranched, operated their auto dealership, "Molitor Motors" and were the mail contractors for several rural routes, while raising their children. In 1964 they purchased another ranch northeast of Meadow, SD. They also owned a Trans Am Racing Team which raced on major tracks throughout the United States against drivers such as Mario Andretti, Parnelli Jones and Marc Donahue. Agnes and her husband purchased a Winnebago and traveled to many places throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. Agnes would often be the "navigator" and Arnold the "driver". They continued farming and ranching until Arnold was tragically killed on January 16, 1974. Agnes continued operating the business and eventually focused all her efforts on her mail routes, children and grandchildren. In 2006 she received an award for 66 years of services as a mail contractor. Agnes was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the BPW, the Calvary Lutheran Church Women, both the North Dakota and South Dakota Star Route Mail Carriers Associations. Agnes was often elected as the delegate to represent the mail carriers of South Dakota at the National Convention. She enjoyed crocheting, making quilts, bookkeeping, playing cards, boating, fishing and attending BINGO with her friends. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, California and Hawaii. Agnes was an extremely hard worker throughout her whole life, refused to "retire" and instilled those same values in her children. Whatever she was involved in she gave 110% to ensure its success. Agnes passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND. Agnes is survived by her son, Allen (Kay) Molitor, Casper, WY; two daughters, Aldene Powers, Lemmon, SD, Arlis (Jim) Greco, Sunnyvale, CA; one brother, Ernie (Alice) Trogstad, Lemmon, SD; four sisters, Hazel Weishaar, Elgin, ND, Laura Mosley, Lemmon, SD, Gertie Wegner, Golden Valley, ND, and Lucille Miller, Medford OR; seven grandchildren, Sue (Tom), Brenda, Tony (Becky), Tom (Lorrie), Mike (Noreen), Denise (Steve) and Jim (Chanel); 18 great grandchildren, Dustin, Tyler, Tamar, Andrew, Lynette, Anthony, Samantha, Zach, Nick, John, Mike, Jennifer, Stefanie, Daniel, David, Justice, Jayden and Jersey; and six great-great grandchildren, Phavian, Gavin, Onyx, Teyha, Morgan and Jeremy. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold; one son-in-law John Powers; two brothers, Curtis Trogstad and Clifford Trogstad; and a grand daughter-in-law Ann Powers. Visitation will be from 1pm – 7pm Monday, April 21, at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
