Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Celebrant will be the Rev. Robert Gralapp. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Gift bearers at the Mass will be Lloyd Nees and Lloyd Miller. Casket bearers will be Larry Nees, David Nees, Doug Brown, Dave Croonquist, Charles Porter, Todd Miller, Chris Miller and Clark Fessler. Honorary casket bearers will be Patrick Fick and Matthew Aiken. Visitation will begin after 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Rosaries will be recited at 3 p.m. and at 8:15 p.m. on Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday by St. Lawrence parish. Mrs. Nees was born May 11, 1902, at Lindsay, Texas, a daughter of John and Mary (Schad) Ortner. She moved to the Mount Carmel community with her family in 1909, and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Schools. On Sept. 3, 1929, she married William Nees at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mount Carmel. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in various communities. The last 20 years of their working life, they farmed south of Glidden. They retired in 1969, and moved to Carroll. Mrs. Nees had been a resident of St. Anthony Nursing Home since 1989. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll and a member of the parish Ladies Guild. Survivors include her husband, William, of Carroll; a son, Lloyd Nees and his wife, Elizabeth, of Coon Rapids; three daughters, Shirley Fick and her husband, Lee, of Seabeack, Wash., Marvel Aiken and her husband, Allan, of Manchester, Wash., and Mary Jane Miller and her husband, Lloyd, of Boone; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lena Stork of Mount Carmel and Amanda Neppl of Halbur. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Verna, in infancy; four brothers, Fred, Henry, Lawrence and Joseph Ortner, and two sisters, Anna Neumayer and Clara Geier.
