She was the daughter of William Voorhis (Jan 1869/1870 - 1917) and Emma Forshay (12 Nov 1877 - 1955). The 1900 census shows her and her parents living next door to Emma Forshay's parents, Abram (Sep 1842-?) and Agnes (Nov 1846 - ?)Forshay. VOORHES OSTERHOUDT, of Butler died Tuesday. She was born in Franklin (Campgaw/Franklin Lakes), Bergen County, NJ 31 Jul 1898. She was the daughter of William Voorhis (Jan 1869/1870 - 1917) and Emma Forshay (12 Nov 1877 - 1955). The 1900 census shows her and her parents living next door to Emma Forshay's parents, Abram (Sep 1842-?) and Agnes (Nov 1846 - ?)Forshay. William and Emma owned the house on the corner of Pulis Avenue and Old Mill Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. It is very likelty that she was born in one of these two homes which still stand (as of 2009). The house owned by William and Emma Voorhis (located at 361 Pulis Ave, Franklin Lakes, NJ, 07417) has remained in the Jost family into the late 1990's and may still be owned by Agnes's great grandnephew. Agnes was a descendent of Steven Coert Van Voorhis who came to America in 1660 from Holland and David Ackerman whi also came from Holland in 1662. Before retiring in 1963, she was a polisher at the Amerace Corporation of Butler for 21 years. She was a member of the Butler Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Golden Agers and the XYZ Club, both of Butler, and the Queen Esther Club of Franklin Lakes. She was a cofounder of the Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member and secretary of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, both in Butler. Surviving are five sons, Ronald of Vernon, Grant of Raleigh, N.C., and Malcolm, Abram, and Barry, all of Butler; a daughter, Joyce Barry of Naples, Fla; two brothers, William of Toms River and Ray of Franklin Lakes; two sisters, May Jost of Franklin Lakes and Emily Hughes of Houston; 32 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. Her husband, John H., died in 1954. Donations to the Tri-Boro First-Aid Squad of Butler would be appreciated.
