In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Hastings, the Hastings Public Schools Foundation, or the Blue Hill United Methodist Church. Agnes was born near Lawrence, Nebraska, on October 17, 1921, to Anton and Frances (Juranek) Svoboda. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Lawrence HIgh School in 1939. On February 13, 1941, she married Ivan Karr and moved to a farm west of Blue Hill. Two children were born to this union, Betty (Karr) Kort and Robert Roy. In 1947 the family moved to the original Karr homestead where they lived until 1972 and then moved to Blue Hill. In 2009 Ivan and Agnes moved to College View Assisted Living in Hastings. Besides being a homemaker and mother, Agnes was a full partner in the family farming operation until her husband retired from farming in 1979. While living in Blue Hill, she was a member of the Blue Hill United Methodist Church and served on many committees. She was also active in the Blue Hill Community Center. Agnes traveled widely throughout North America with her husband Ivan. Artistically talented, Agnes painted in acrylics and oils and enjoyed ceramics, sculpture, embroidery, and sewing. But for Agnes, family came first and foremost. Agnes, a proud wife, mother and grandmother, will be missed by her family and friends. Most of all, Agnes was joined in an unshakeable (sic) union with her husband Ivan for just short of 70 years. They were one and inseparable until Ivan passed away in January of 2011. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; three brothers; husband Ivan (to whom she was married for 69 years), son Robert; and grandson Scott. Survivors include daughter Betty Kort & husband Ron of Hastings; daughter-in-law Pam Niemeyer & husband Lyle of Bladen; six grandchildren (and their spouses): Vonda & Dave Tubbs of Aurora, Mike & Diane Karr of Blue Hill, Nicole & Jim Dietz of Grand Island, Dan & Mandy Karr of Aurora, Julie Kort Wall & Robert of Frisco, Texas, Amy Kort & George Smaragdis of Arlington, Virginia; sixteen great grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.
