Alaire is survived by her sister-in-law, Juanita Hannibal, her two daughters, Alee Zurcher and Teresa Shilling, sons-in-law, James Zurcher and John Shilling, grandchildren, Tenaya Adams, Teague Soderman, Lars, Adam and Aaron Shilling, and six great-grandchildren. Alaire was born in Burwell, Nebraska on November 12, 1920. She married the late Captain Allan M. Hannibal on March 20, 1943 and moved to Vancouver, Washington after World War II. While in Vancouver, she was the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of the Vancouver Public School District from which she retired in 1986. While in Vancouver, she also taught many sewing and quilting classes for Clark College. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Vancouver and Trinity Baptist Church in Livermore, California where she moved after her retirement. In addition to her strong faith, she loved sewing, gardening, flower arranging and cooking. Alaire's homemade potato soup and BLT sandwiches were a hit with her grandchildren. Her husband, Allan, loved the desserts she always made, especially her popcorn balls and foam sauce. Her son-in-law, John, fondly remembers his monthly blueberry pie! A gentle-hearted wife, mother, and grandmother, Alaire never said an unkind word about anyone or anything. She will be missed by all. We love our MOD GRANDMA!
