In 1965, Alan and his family moved to a... Read More	Alan Huisinga On Sunday, July 1st, 2018, Alan Eugene Huisinga, loving father of four children and six grandchildren passed away at the age of 65. Alan was born on January 8th, 1953 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Imogene Collins. Imogene married a wonderful man named John K. Collins in 1960, and John loved Alan, his brother Richard, and sister Linda as his own. Alan gained another sister, Jan, and a brother Jon Jay after the marriage, as well as four siblings from John's previous marriage, John, Bill, Candy, and Kari. In 1965, Alan and his family moved to a farm on Lake Road in Ottumwa. Alan would find a deep, life long love for animals, nature, and family while on the farm and attended Center Country School near the family farm. Alan graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1971 and started his career with John Deere Ottumwa Works in August of 1972. He worked at John Deere for 46 years and retired after a diagnosis of glioblastoma. Alan wasn't ready to retire, mostly because he didn't like the thought of not having time with his co-workers every day who were considered family. He was a very proud member of the U.A.W. Local #74 and believed in the concept of union rights firmly. His father, John K. Collins and grandfather, Bill VanWyk were also John Deere factory workers and union men. Alan married Cynthia Glasford in 1972 and they lived in a home less than a mile from the farm that he grew up on. This marriage included two daughters, Stacy and Angie before they divorced in 1980. He then married Kathryn Gugle in 1984 and this marriage included one son, Aaron, before they divorced in 1988. Alan married Kathy Penniston in 1991 and this marriage included his daughter Jessica, before they divorced in 2000. After his glioblastoma diagnosis, he was able to remain in his home with the help of his family, who also did everything they could to help him travel and experience all that he had hoped to do during retirement. Alan loved to watch his grandchildren play OHS softball, FHS basketball, as well as Ottumwa archery but loved making them laugh the most. He was also extremely kind and generous, willing to lend a hand and help anyone that was in need with a big but humble heart. He was a lifelong Harley Davidson fan and made many memories while riding his own Harley with his friends and children. He was surrounded by love, made some amazing memories, and he found great comfort while attending service at The Bridge Church where he enjoyed listening to their worship music, which often had his fingers tapping and tears flowing. Surviving are his children, Stacy (Jeremy) Jeffrey of Fairfield, Angie Huisinga of Ottumwa, Aaron Huisinga of Kirksville, MO and Jessica (Anthony) Nace of Des Moines; as well as 6 grandchildren, Kara, Kyle and Jake Jeffrey of Fairfield and Hannah, Alondra, and Mylia Huisinga of Ottumwa. Alan is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as his older sister, Linda (Ron) Barton of Nevada, IA who shared a very close, loving bond with him. Although she was the older sister, they shared an ongoing joke that she was younger and it always made Alan smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, John K. and Imogene Collins, brothers, Richard Harris and Jon Jay Collins, and a sister Jan Collins-Dixon. His body has been cremated. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday the 7th at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Phil Morrison officiating. A celebration of life dinner will be held at his home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to assist with medical expenses.
