Description	:	Alan Brueggeman, 65, of Hartford, formerly of Miller, SD, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 1, 2019 after losing his battle with cancer. Alan Francis Brueggeman was born on March 26, 1953 in Faulkton, SD, the youngest son of Lawrence (Pat) and Kunie (Oligumueller) Brueggeman. Read More	Alan Brueggeman, 65, of Hartford, formerly of Miller, SD, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 1, 2019 after losing his battle with cancer. Alan Francis Brueggeman was born on March 26, 1953 in Faulkton, SD, the youngest son of Lawrence (Pat) and Kunie (Oligumueller) Brueggeman. He attended Polo Catholic grade school and Fairview High School, where he graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1971. After graduation, he continued his education at Northern State College where he graduated with a degree in business. In 1975, he returned home to Polo to farm and raise cattle with his dad and brothers, and later, his nephews. He married Sharon Moncur on November 5, 1983, at St. Liborius Catholic Church in Polo, SD. They were blessed with three daughters, Karen, Sheila, and Cheryl. In 2012, he stepped away from farming to spend more time with his grandchildren. Al was always up for a hand of cards or round of dice to win a buck. During the winter months he kept busy with puzzles, whether it be a challenging jigsaw puzzle or crossword. He always had a joke to tell or words of wisdom to share. He enjoyed spontaneous road trips and taking the scenic route whenever he could, always finding a new spot to stop for a meal and drink. After retirement, he joined Sharon for many afternoons on the golf course. He was usually in the rough or picking up the yellow ones, but putting was his specialty. They were able to do more traveling with family and friends, but most of all he loved having the grandkids around to share a bowl of ice cream. He was an avid football and baseball fan who loved the Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 35 years; children, Karen (Brian) Sundermann of Canistota, SD, Sheila (Chase) Brown of Hartford, SD and Cheryl (Travis) Bergeson of Lake City, SD; 7 grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kelsey, and Breauna Sundermann, Callie and Crix Brown, and Isaac and Lucas Bergeson; siblings, Kenny (Connie) Brueggeman of Highmore, SD, Ronnie (Suzi) Brueggeman of Miller, SD, Susan (Jerry) Walker of Watertown, SD, Melvin (Debbie) Brueggeman of Miller, SD and Terry (Pam) Brueggeman of Marshalltown, IA; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Kip Brueggeman. At Alan’s request, in lieu of flowers please direct memorials to Hand County Hands of Hope, 35611 200th Street, Miller, SD 57362.
