He was born Oct. 27, 1947, in Concordia, Kan., the son of George and Annette (Cote) Ashland. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1965. Alan worked for Boyd Oil Company in Concordia, Betz Bakery, Kooser Service Station, the Co-op Solomon/Talmage before working for ALCO as the service island attendant. He was born Oct. 27, 1947, in Concordia, Kan., the son of George and Annette (Cote) Ashland. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1965. Alan worked for Boyd Oil Company in Concordia, Betz Bakery, Kooser Service Station, the Co-op Solomon/Talmage before working for ALCO as the service island attendant. Alan enjoyed gardening, reading, woodworking and collecting just about anything that could be collected. He especially loved spending time with his family and traveling to Branson. On Jan. 5, 1973, he married Carolyn Herring in Belleville. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Alison Mundi of Kimberly, Ala., Shanon Woolley and her husband Robert of Wichita, Sharon Knox of Concordia, Tonya Ramsey and her husband Bill of Haysville; sons, Timothy Schutte of Larned, Steven Ashland of Abilene; brother, Gary Ashland and his wife Kathy of Concordia; sister, Patricia "Pat" Ashland of Concordia; 14 grandchilden. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Abilene with Father Henry Baxa as celebrant. A parish rosary will be 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Martin-Becker Carlson Funeral Home with the family receiving friends following the rosary. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Abilene. Memorial contributions may be made to Derik's Ride for Childhood Cancer Research and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, KS 67410.
