He was born Sept. 14, 1893 in Traybien, Wyo., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alban Demoine Spang Sr. He was raised and attended schools in Lame Deer. He married Ruth Sink at Lame Deer May 15, 1928. After he was disabled, she supported the family while teaching school. Survivors include the widow of Hayes; two sons, Edward F. Spang, working with the Bureau of Land Management in Nigeria, Africa, and Peter of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. William J. Bair of 2027 Howard Ave., Billings, Mrs. Norm Sterner, of Thermopolis, Wyo.; Mrs. Hugh Frame of Plains; five brothers, Alphonso, Ray, Wilfred, Buster and James, all of Lame Deer; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Robinson, Mrs. Virgil Winsor, Mrs. Julia Small and Mrs. Hattie Bowans, all of Lame Deer; and 10 grandchildren.
