Description	:	AUGUSTA - Alberic J. Fontaine, 93, of Augusta died May 4, 2010, at Maine Veterans' Home after an extended illness. He was born in Winthrop on Sept. 24, 1916, the son of the late Fortunat and Adele (Audet) Fontaine. Mr. Fontaine was educated in Augusta schools and Gates Business College. He served honorably in the Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946, as a combat engineer in Northern Ireland, England, North Africa, Corsica, Italy, France and Germany. Fontaine, 93, of Augusta died May 4, 2010, at Maine Veterans' Home after an extended illness. He was born in Winthrop on Sept. 24, 1916, the son of the late Fortunat and Adele (Audet) Fontaine. Mr. Fontaine was educated in Augusta schools and Gates Business College. He served honorably in the Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946, as a combat engineer in Northern Ireland, England, North Africa, Corsica, Italy, France and Germany. Mr. Fontaine retired from the University of Maine at Augusta in 1981. He previously owned and operated the launderette on Water Street from 1952 to 1973. He was also employed by the state of Maine and the Veterans Affairs Center at Togus. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Marc; three brothers, Raoul Fontaine, Robert Fontaine and Edgar Fontaine; and a sister, Aurora Bouchard. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Julia (Patenaude) Fontaine, of Augusta; three sons, Louis and his wife, Cheryl, of Sidney, Charles and his wife, Sandra, of Augusta, and Wilfred and his wife, Elizabeth, of Belgrade; a daughter-in-law, Susan Mitton, of Sidney; one brother, Raymond Fontaine, of Winthrop; one sister, Elaine Gould, of Winthrop; two grandsons, Matthew and Luke Fontaine; one stepgrandson, Charlie Coates III; five granddaughters, Vanessa Amatucci and Nicole, Michelle, Sabine and Camille Fontaine; a great-grandson, Cole Amatucci; a sister-in-law, Joan Fontaine, of Winthrop; one aunt, Nellie Fontaine; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 5/6/2010)
