Albert (Al) was born on June 18, 1918 in Golden Valley, North Dakota to John and Franziska (Wiedrick) Koehler. He had nine brothers and sisters. Read More	Albert Alex Koehler Went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2008, four days after his 90th birthday. Albert (Al) was born on June 18, 1918 in Golden Valley, North Dakota to John and Franziska (Wiedrick) Koehler. He had nine brothers and sisters. At the early age of seventeen, he went to South Dakota to work with the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC). Al served in the Army from 1941-1945 as a Staff Sergeant. During WWII, he was stationed in Melbourne, Australia and worked as a veterinarian's assistant and as a meat inspector. After returning home from the war, he helped build the Garrison Dam. In 1948, Al married Ruth (Miller) in North Dakota and in 1955, Albert and Ruth ventured out west to Puyallup, Washington where they established a home and raised their four daughters. Al used his carpentry skills and completely remodeled the inside of their home. He loved growing roses, tomatoes and fruit. Al was an extremely dedicated husband, father and employee. He worked for Kenworth Motors as a sheet metal mechanic for 31 years, retiring at the age of 67. He was a member of Sheet Metal Union #99. He was a long time standing member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Al lovingly cared for his wife, Ruth, of 57 years, who preceded him in death in 2005. He is survived by his sisters, Irene McGregor (John) of Puyallup, Erna Baisch of Bismarck, North Dakota, and by daughters Sandi Loper (Ron) of Gig Harbor, Karen Brooks (Donald) of Columbia City, Oregon, Sharon Kautzman (Larry) of Orting and Kathy Koehler VanderPutten (Ken) of Brier. He also has 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. The family would especially like to thank Richard Andersen, Al's supportive and caring friend, and Dr. Jerry Duris, Al's physician who compassionately provided care for many years. Viewing today (Wed) 5-8 pm and Thursday 10:00-11:30 am at Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer Puyallup 98371. The Committal service will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday June 26th at Sumner Cemetery, 12324 Valley Ave E., followed by a Memorial service at 1:00 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 720 W. Main, Puyallup, WA with Pastor Robert Banken, officiating. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Powers Funeral Home, (253) 845-0536.
