Born March 4, 1921, he was the son of Octave and Julia (Dupuis) Roy and lived most of his life in Berlin. He was voted “The Sheik” in high school. Roy, 89, formerly of Granite Street, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home. Born March 4, 1921, he was the son of Octave and Julia (Dupuis) Roy and lived most of his life in Berlin. He was voted “The Sheik” in high school. In his twenties, Albert realized his dream and opened up a restaurant called the Splendid Restaurant in Newport, Vt. A life altering accident which fractured his skull and caused other serious injuries ended his dreams and left him blind and disabled at the young age of 27. With a wife and young son dependent upon him, he not only survived the accident and came out of a coma, he persevered. Despite his limitations, Albert always went above and beyond, accomplishing things that others didn’t think possible. He was the handyman of the house, hammering and sawing. He was a common site around Berlin, walking wherever he needed to go and greeted by many along his travels. He was well known by his family for his ‘short’ two hour walks. He took his love of music and made it an important part of his life and passed that appreciation down many generations. With an ear for music and a passion for perfection, he would take his reel to reel music and eventually have them on CD. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, who he fondly called his sugar plum, of 66 years, Olive (Michaud) Roy. He was also preceded in death by his son, Raymond A. Roy. He leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Pauline (Rouleau) Roy of Coventry, Conn.; three grandchildren, Cathy (Roy) Hedges and her husband Ken of West Springfield, Mass., Karen (Roy) Schwarz and her husband Klaus of Chandler, Arizona, and Cindy (Roy) Schnell and her husband Brian of Coventry, Conn. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Stuart R. Parker of Laconia, Kristen (Parker) Antico of Chicopee, Mass., Christopher Schwarz, Stephanie Schwarz, Sarah Schwarz, and Kyle Schwarz of Chandler, Arizona, Brian Schnell and Brianna Schnell of Coventry, Conn., and a great-great-grandson, Landon Albert Antico of Chicopee, Mass. He will be sadly missed by his family but is now reunited with his devoted wife, who he missed with all his heart these last three years; they were inseparable until her death. Arrangements are being made by Fleury-Patry Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church on Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Kieran Cemetery. Fleury-Patry Funeral Home Obituary 5/26/2010
