Read More	from the Dallas County News, 12 Feb 1908 Albert Clarence Walker, son of Ira S and Lanah Stover Walker, was born near Panther, Dallas county, 23 Sep 1887, and died in Linden, Iowa, 6 Feb 1908, aged 20 years, 4 months, and 14 days. Mr. and Mrs. Walker, with their two children, Albert and Lillie, moved to Linden ten years ago. The children entered the public school and the Sunday school of the M.E. church. During the ten years that followed, they were members of the same class in school and constant companions. They were graduated from the Linden High School in 1906 and from the Guthrie County High School in 1907. Last September both entered the State University, beginning the four-years' course in the College of Liberal Arts. Bertie was not in usual health and in November became ill with inflammatory rheumatism, resulting in valvular heart trouble. After the Christmas holidays he was unable to return to the University and was soon quite ill, although all were hopeful of his recovery. On the morning of Feb. 6th he was unually cheerful, having had restful sleep during the night. He spoke of many pleasant things, calling the nurses' attention to the beautiful sunrise across the ice and snow. Without a moments' warning death came, from rheumatism of the heart. The writer has known Bertie well since the age of ten. He was earnest, faithful, teachable, lovable. Besides the usual faculties of a bright mind, the gift of oratory was laid on him. Linden people will recall his eloquent address at the Linn township Sunday school convention in 1905, and his oration, "Our Greatest Heritage," on his graduation from our High School in 1906. He won first place in 1907 in the Senior-Junior contest of the Guthrie County High School on the oration: "The Twentieth Century Call". He expected to study law or enter the ministry. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church in Linden, Feb 9, at 10: a.m. conducted by Rev. Perry of Linden, and Rev. Houghteln of Panora. It is the church with which Bertie had been identified since coming to Linden. Following the services at the Linden church, was a service at the Panther Creek church, where many relatives and life-time friends were gathered. Interment was in the Panther Creek cemetery. Flowers were sent by the Zatagathian literary society of Iowa City, by class of 1907 of Guthrie county high school, Linden Epworth League and M.E. Sunday school, from business houses of Linden and from many personal friends.
