Hutchings, son of Mr. & Mrs. Jonathan Hutchings, was born in Wayne County, Iowa, on August 2, 1883. He grew to manhood at that place and was united in marriage to Miss Jessie Swartz on September 18, 1902. To this union seven children were born. The eldest child, Reginald, preceded him in death thirty-one years ago. The children surviving are: Leon Odell Hutchings, of Osceola; Mrs. Frederick Dennis, and Mrs. Pete Enslow of Chariton; J. B. Hutchings, Billie Hutchings, and Avis Hutchings, of home. There are also one daughter in law and two sons in law. Besides his wife and children, he is also survived by his aged mother of Cambria, Iowa, and one brother, George Hutchings of Garden Grove; and four sisters: Mrs. Jennie Dickhut, of Minnesota; Mrs. Maude Draper, Mrs. Reva Cook, and Mrs. Neva Booth all of Corydon. His father and one brother preceded him in death. Mr. Hutchings and his wife were converted and united with the Eden Baptist Church during a meeting conducted by Rev. M. S. Clark, many years ago. He lived a devoted Christian life and always attended church services when able. He was a devoted husband and father, a splendid citizen, and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. A peculiar coincidence was the fact that he was born on Sunday, married on Sunday, and died on Sunday. For many years he served as mayor and marshall at Derby, and at the time of his death was filling the office of constable. Among those in attendance at the last rites were Mr. & Mrs. Pete Enslow, Mr. & Mrs. Frederick Dennis, of Chariton; Mr. & Mrs. Odell Hutchings and her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Saddoris, of Osceola; Mrs. Alice Hutchings, of Cambria; Mr. & Mrs. Sam Draper and son, Von Draper and wife; Mr. & Mrs. Fred Cook and Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Booth, of Corydon; Mr. & Mrs. George Hutchings and baby of Garden Grove; Mr. & Mrs. Frank Hull and son, Waldo and wife, of Osceola; Ward Folger and son, Earl, of New Virginia; Mrs. Laura Woollis and sons, Ross and Fred and wife, of Humeston; Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Jack, Mrs. Allie Dunham and Mr. & Mrs. J. A. Hogue of Corydon; Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Dennis, of Chariton.
