Albert “Bob” Woodcock was born on September 17, 1925 at home in Hawarden Iowa to Albert Henry Woodcock, Sr. and Minni (Hemmelrick) Woodcock. His aunt Opal (Woodcock) Heiman was midwife at his birth. Albert “Bob” Woodcock was born on September 17, 1925 at home in Hawarden Iowa to Albert Henry Woodcock, Sr. and Minni (Hemmelrick) Woodcock. His aunt Opal (Woodcock) Heiman was midwife at his birth. He attended many county schools in and around Union County South Dakota. He dropped out of school at the age of 16 years old to enter the workforce. He had many occupations during his working years, but was most accomplished at trucking. He acquired many skills throughout the years; farmer, rancher, carpenter, lumber jack, butcher, mechanic, plumber, handyman, and especially truck driver. He met his wife Virginia Johnson in Lake Crystal Minnesota and was married on July 23, 1949. They had six children; Gloria (James) Mertesdorf of Pine Island, MN, Leonard and Patricia (Pongratz) of Rochester, MN, Jacqueline (Gary) Sohre of Mapleton, MN, Brenda (Charles) Wienk of Lake Preston, SD, Jerome and Janean (Trewatha) of Lake Preston, SD; Tersia (Joel) Warne of Lake Preston, SD. He enjoyed country music, playing his harmonica, tending his lawn, and tinkering with cars. Bob was forced to retire at the age of 60 due to a back injury that daunted him ever since. As a long-haul trucker Bob had traveled in each of the lower 48 states, and still could remember the cities and the locations he either dropped or picked up a load.
