Description	:	Albert Hokamp, 93, of Arlington died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Arbor Manor in Fremont. He was born March 2, 1917, in rural Arlington to August and Martha (Knecht) Hokamp. He grew up in rural Arlington and after school he worked on the family farm and did odd jobs for $1 a day. He then worked at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co. at Baltimore, Md., for 4 1/2 years and made airplane parts. Read More	Albert Hokamp, 93, of Arlington died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Arbor Manor in Fremont. He was born March 2, 1917, in rural Arlington to August and Martha (Knecht) Hokamp. He grew up in rural Arlington and after school he worked on the family farm and did odd jobs for $1 a day. He then worked at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co. at Baltimore, Md., for 4 1/2 years and made airplane parts. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from June 22, 1945, to July 29, 1946, and served in the Asiatic Pacific. He then returned to Arlington where he farmed. He moved into Arlington from the family farm in 1979 and had been residing at Arbor Manor in Fremont since August 2004. He married Darlene E. Laaker on Nov. 7, 1948, in Arlington. She died Aug. 31, 1986. He was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Arlington and held all offices at the church. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League and served on the state board for four years and the Zone 4 Board for two years. He served two years on St. Paul's Cemetery Board. He was on the Board of Regents at Concordia College in Seward. He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington. He was a volunteer at the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and received his 8-gallon pin. Survivors include: two sons, Steven (and wife, Diane) Hokamp of Fremont and Randy (and wife, Judy) Hokamp of Arlington; two sisters, Meta Breithaupt of Fremont and Norma (and husband, Elmer) Katt of Herman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alvin and Lorraine Gnuse of Carpenteria, Calif.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Darlene; two brothers, Martin & Gilbert Hokamp two sisters, Lora & Esther Gieselmann and a sister-in-law, Esther Hokamp. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, north of Arlington, with the Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Arlington with the military graveside service conducted by members of VFW Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington.
