He served in the Army Air Corp for three years having served in War War II. He was a longtime member of Freedom Rest Baptist Church. A. J. loved to fish and garden. He was preceded in death by son Buford Kay. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Thelma Kay of Anacoco, LA, nine children, Laverne & Ronnie Atchison of Kirbyville, TX, Lillian & Alan Simmons of Anacoco, Ann & Mark Baker of Burr Ferry, James & Nancy Kay of Anacoco, Sharon & Billy Laurent of Leesville, Martha & Doug McNeely of Toledo Bend, Pamela & Edwin McCullough of Anacoco, Jerry & Cindy Kay of Burr Ferry, & Wanda Kay of Burr Ferry, 31 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.
