Description	:	Albert Jones, age 89, of Burnsville, passed away on Monday, May 4th, 2015, on his wife's birthday, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was born November 12th, 1925 in Yancey County to the late Horace Tilman and Fusha Robinson Jones. He was also preceded in death by wife, Frances Poteat Jones, who passed away in 2007 and a sister, Fern Lillian Robinson. Read More	Albert Jones, age 89, of Burnsville, passed away on Monday, May 4th, 2015, on his wife's birthday, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was born November 12th, 1925 in Yancey County to the late Horace Tilman and Fusha Robinson Jones. He was also preceded in death by wife, Frances Poteat Jones, who passed away in 2007 and a sister, Fern Lillian Robinson. Albert served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, where he attended regularly until he became a caregiver for his wife due to her declining health. He was an avid Nascar fan and had a "need for speed", loved his Ford cars, so much so, he had two race cars, which had painted "Hello Walls" on the side, where he raced at Flat Creek until it was replaced with the Amboy Road track. He and his friend Terrell Ray always worked on his cars through the week so Albert could tear them up on Saturday night. He also loved white water rafting before it was popular. Most of the adults that he coerced into making the trip through the gorge beginning at Poplar and ending at Unaka Springs, never went back; however, he and his son, Danny, would get Danny's younger friends because they had no fear! Albert was a "jack of all trades". He was a builder, had a car lot, a tire store located where Flick Video is now, and buying and selling land. He was an avid coin and pocket watch collector. When his health declined, he not only collected pocket watches, but also repaired them. Other interest included playing the banjo in his younger days with his neighbor Robert Wilson. Albert and Frances made their home in the close knit Pleasant Gap Community until a fire destroyed their home in 2002. After the fire, Frances and Albert moved to town in Burnsville. There his neighbors kept a close watch on him after Frances' death. He fell in love with his neighbors Maltese dog named Kodi and they were inseparable. After Kodi's passing, he took in the same neighbors cat in as well and named her Kodi. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Danny Jones and friend, Frances McCurry, of Newland; daughter, Karen Grindstaff and wife, Earl, of Burnsville; brother, Phillip Jones and wife, Sonya, of Johnson City, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth Poteat and wife, Betty, of Bakersville; two grandsons: Brian Jones and wife, Jeannie, of Burnsville and Caleb Grindstaff of Johnson City, TN and great-grandchildren: Tyler, Megan and Ethan Jones. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Ricky Ray will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. A private burial will be held where he will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Fred Young Cemetery on Friday. Memorial donations may be made to Yancey County Meals on Wheels Program c/o Yancey County Senior Center at 10 Swiss Ave., Burnsville, NC 28714.
