Description	:	Albert "Al" Lawrence Marsh, 85, of 1406 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Saturday (Feb. 28, 2009) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N. Clear Lake, with the Rev. Diana Hoover, officiating. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. Al was born on Aug. 5, 1923, in Nevada, Iowa, the son of John M. and Maude (Olinger) Marsh. Al graduated from Ventura High School in 1941. He farmed with his father. Al served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his discharge from service, Al returned to Clear Lake and married Betty Hyde, on Aug. 11, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Mason City. He farmed in the Clear Lake area for over 35 years. He later worked at the Cerro Gordo Courthouse in the maintenance department for 15 years. Al enjoyed fishing, gardening and was known for huge tomato plants, grape vines, strawberry patch, playing cards and going to fairs. He was a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W., Masonic Lodge, Mason City and was Past Master of Varity Masonic Lodge No. 250, Clear Lake. Al is survived by his five children, Jim Marsh, of Clear Lake; Jerry (Pamela) Marsh, of Norwalk, Iowa; Robert Marsh and (Sharon), of Clear Lake; Cheryl (Jeff) Goodman, of Andover, Minn.; and Susan Thompson and her companion, Mike, of Jesup; 17 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Buck, of Mason City; and brother, Dale (Arlene) Marsh, of Clear Lake.
