Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Congregational Church of Whiting. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Mr. Brenden was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Sloan, Iowa, the son of Albert and Ina (Parker) Brenden. He attended Whiting Consolidated School and graduated in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in December 1942, and served in the Pacific Theater for three years. He then returned to farm in the Whiting community. He married Marvel Harding at First Congregational Church in Sioux City in 1946. He was an active member of First Congregational UCC Church of Whiting, where he served on the board of trustees and council for a number of years. He was on the board of directors of the Whiting Coop Elevator for six years, serving until is dispersal. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and a Past Noble Grand, a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine, Past Master of Weston Lodge AF & AM, Past Patron of Whiting Chapter OES, past president of Monona County Consistory, member of the Sioux City Bodies Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rites, past director of its 21st degree, and received his honorary Thirty-third. He was a longtime member of the West Monona Drainage board. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Emery-Johnson Post and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Onawa. He was one of the original signers of the Articles of Incorporation of the Whiting Rodeo Association and had remained active. He enjoyed playing cards, following sports on television, working on the farm and being with his friends. He will be greatly missed by many. Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Michael and Suzanne of Whiting, and Richard and Sue of Sloan; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Cristy, Sarah, Jason, Jillian, Luke and Cole; a great-grandchild, Kayla; a sister, Elaine Linscott of Bella Vista, Ark.; a niece; a nephew; and a special friend, Harold "Mac" McCord. -------------------------
