Read More	The Sebeka Review, June 7, 1918 Finding of Body Reveals Murder - Body of Murdered Man Found Near Jefferson Highway 3 Miles North of Wadena The finding of the dead body of a young man behind a school house in Leaf River township about three o'clock Wednesday afternoon revealed the fact that a foul murder had been committed not later than that morning. The school house sets back from the Jefferson Highway about three miles north of Wadena. The body was found with an overcoat thrown over his head and shoulders and his shoes had been taken off his feet and placed against the school house, while a coroner's investigation brought to light that the man had been murdered as his forehead was terribly crushed, probably with a heavy blunt weapon. A hunting game license was found on his person bearing the name of Albert H. Munfein, of Waverly, Iowa, and the shoes bore the name of the name of a dealer at Oelwein, Iowa, so the authorities have some information on which to instigate a search for the party or parties guilty of the crime. The hunting license gave his age as 31 years and his general appearance would indicate that he was a mechanic. It is evident that the crime had been committed north of where the body was found as an automobile had turned into the school house grounds from the north and after placing the body back of the building the occupants of the car apparently had driven back north again, according to the wheel tracks in the soft ground. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Sebeka Review, June 14, 1918 Murdered Man Identified The correct name of the murdered young man whose body was found behind the Leaf River school house Wednesday of last week is Albert H. Mundfrom Located at Fargo Wednesday - NO CLUES TO MURDERER - Abandoned Car Found Short Distance From Fargo in Road a Mile From Any Home The Ford auto driven by Alfred H. Mundfrum of Waverly, Iowa, who was foully murdered and his body left behind the Leaf River school house on June 5th, has been found at Fargo, N.D., in the possession of the police department where it has been for some time. Sheriff A.L. Irwin went up yesterday to identify the car but was unable to secure any clues as to the driver or the one who abandoned it. It will be remembered that Mundfrom drove a Ford roadster with his trunk attached behind and that shortly after leaving this city he was murdered and the car driven north presumably by the murderer. There was no clue to the guilty party at the time but word was sent broadcast immediately to be on the lookout. Instead of going north, however, it appears the car that the car was headed for Fargo, perhaps coming back through this city to get onto on of the trails leading out from here. The Fargo police first received word of the car several days after the murder but the very fact that the car had been abandoned in the middle of the road failed to arouse the suspicion of passersby until several days had elapsed and it was then that the police department was notified. They immediately had it brought in and after failing to find any clues as to the identity of the owner wrote to the Ford factory giving the engine number. Through the factory the car was traced to the dealer at Waverly, Ia., who had sold the car to Mundfrom. Sheriff Irwin was then notified and he went to Fargo as stated above. - Wadena Pioneer Journal. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Sebeka Review, September 20, 1918 Fred Milbradt Arrested for Murder - Brought Back from North Dakota for the Murder of Albert Mundfrom. Fred Milbradt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Milbradt of North Germany township, who live a few miles southwest of Sebeka, was arrested the first of this week near Fargo, N.D., on the charge of having murdered Albert H. Mundfrom of Waverly, Iowa, whose mutilated body was found behind the Leaf River school house on June 5th. The murdered man's car was found standing deserted on a road about a mile from Fargo the first part of August, evidently having been driven there by the murderer and then left. It is said that the authorities had picked up clues from the first which pointed to the fact that the crime had been committed by a local party and the clues were quietly and persistently worked out until the arrest of young Milbradt occurred this week, the arrest taking place near Fargo, where he had been working, and he was brought to Wadena Monday. It is said that Milbradt was seen driving a Ford roadster with an Iowa License number on in the vicinity of Sebeka the day after the murder, but as to the truth of this statement, this paper cannot say. Inasmuch that his arrest on the serious charge of the foul murder has been made developments in the case will be eagerly waited for. ++++ Milbradt Confessed - Admits to have Brutally Murdered Albert Mundfrom at Leaf River School House In a telephone conversation with County Attorney J.H. Mark Wednesday, the Review was informed that Fred Milbradt had confessed to having killed Albert H. Mundfrom. Up to Tuesday night Milbradt stubbornly refused to admit that he committed the crime, but that night when confronted with strong evidence of his every movement he confessed, in the presence of county officials and other witnesses, and Wednesday forenoon he was taken before a justice and bound over to the grand jury at the fall term of district court in November. Milbradt stated that he bought a ticket at Casselton, N.D. for Wadena, arriving in that city at two o'clock in the morning of June 5th, and started to walk to Sebeka on the Jefferson Highway. When in front of the Leaf River school house he saw a Ford roadster near the road, and upon walking toward the school building he stumbled on an old iron pump handle which he picked up and proceeded to walk around the building and he came upon a man lying on the ground asleep behind the building. He awoke the stranger and as he started to get to his feet, Milbradt struck him over the head with the pump handle; he stood over his victim a few minutes and when the man showed no sign of life he threw the man's coat over the body and then took the car and started for Sebeka. The trunk, which was fastened on the car, he states, he hid in the brush near Sebeka. Milbradt stated he drove to the home of his brother-in-law, Henry G. Stelck, who lives a little over a mile southwest of Sebeka, and told Mr. and Mrs. Stelck that he had borrowed the car from a friend in Dakota to make the trip home. He also visited his parents that day and then left for Fargo with the car.
