Description	:	Albert Raymond Caler, age 90, of Columbus, Kan. died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Maude Norton Hospital, Columbus. Mr. Caler was born October 16, 1920 in La Harp, Kan. to Albert D. Caler and Alice Maude (Ransom) Caler. He attended country school in a small community between Piqua and Yates Center, Kansas, and later earned his GED. Mr. Caler was born October 16, 1920 in La Harp, Kan. to Albert D. Caler and Alice Maude (Ransom) Caler. He attended country school in a small community between Piqua and Yates Center, Kansas, and later earned his GED. Mr. Caler worked at the Cement Plant in Iola where he did timekeeping and safety training. He worked for the Kansas Job Service Centers in Abilene and Coffeyville. He was inducted into military service at Ft. Leavenworth on August 22, 1942 and went into the Army Air Force Division. He completed Quartermaster School at Camp Lee, Va., November 11, 1944, and was discharged January 26, 1946 with a rank of Sergeant. He was the father of Dennis Caler, who was born in 1952 and passed away in 2004. On August 19, 1989 he married Sandra Kauffman Daniel at Independence, Kan. Al was a gentleman, always courteous and kind. He and Sandi loved to dance, and Al enjoyed feeding and watering the birds, and he loved fishing. Albert was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Columbus, Kan. and previously of First United Methodist Church, Independence, Kansas; the Neewollah Campers of Independence, the Elks Lodge of Iola, and the American Legion of Columbus. He sang in the church choir at both churches, and was formerly a member of the Monday Music Club, Independence. Al was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dewey, Wayne and Dale; his sisters, Nadine Hoag and Lucille Lang; and his son, Dennis. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home, stepson, Bill Daniel, Griffin, Georgia; stepdaughter, Susan Daniel-Brey and husband, Ed Brey, Columbus, Kan.; grandchildren, Robert Daniel and wife Leann, Burlington, Kan. and Stephanie Brey, Columbus, Kan.; two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial Service wasn held Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 320 W. Maple, Columbus, Kan. with his step-daughter, the Rev. Susan Daniel-Brey, officiating. Visitation took place 30 minutes prior to service. Inurnment of his ashes will be at Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas at 3:00 p.m. on the same day. Memorials suggested to "Johnson Cancer Center, KSU" and sent in care of Murdock Funeral Home,132 E. Pine St., PO Box 227, Columbus, KS 66725.
