Description	:	Obituary: Albert Tabyne Gleason, 868, of Kittitas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 14, 1997. He was born July 1, 1910 in Portland, Ore., a son of William A. and Vera (Tabyne) Gleason. Al came to the Kittitas Valley with his parents from Portland, Ore. in 1912. Read More	Obituary: Albert Tabyne Gleason, 868, of Kittitas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 14, 1997. He was born July 1, 1910 in Portland, Ore., a son of William A. and Vera (Tabyne) Gleason. Al came to the Kittitas Valley with his parents from Portland, Ore. in 1912. He attended grade school at Lourdes Academy in Ellensburg, then Ellensburg public school through high school. While going to school, he helped his father on the ranch and at the produce company. After finishing school, Al worked at various jobs in the valley. he and Viola Steel were married in 1928. In 1930 they went to Nevada, where Al worked on road construction in Lake Tahoe. In 1931 Al went to work on Boulder Dam. They returned to Kittitas Valley in 1934 and shortly afterwards they were divorced. Al met Edna Sheckler at his father's produce company and they were married Aug. 3, 1937. That same year they bought the produce company from Al's dad. The produce company was sold in 1939 and Al went to work for the City of Ellensburg, first on the Police Force, and then he transferred to the Fire Department. After leaving the fire department, Al drove a milk truck, owned a dairy farm, worked as a Constable for the South East Game Protection Association, and filled in as a bus driver. Al was appointed Justice of Peace and Police Judge for the city of Kittitas. He was later elected to a judgeship in the Kittitas County Lower District Court. Al also spent 20 years working as a custodian and bus driver for the Kittitas School District. Al was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He is survived by his sons, Gary and his wife Jerry Gleason of Kittitas, and Larry and his wife Ruby Gleason of Ennis, Mont.; brother, William and his wife Doris Gleason of Tualatin, Ore.; sister, Ruby and half sister Hazel Gleason of Kittitas; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Edna in 1989. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 24, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Ellensburg.
