Muscatine Journal and News Tribune Page 13 Thursday, 9 July 1931 Double Funeral in Nebraska for Former Residents West Liberty — Double funeral services were held for Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wiker, former residents of Muscatine and Mercer counties, at their home city of Alliance, Neb., on Wednesday, July 1. Mrs. Wiker was born in Mercer county, Illinois, June 27, 1856. She was married to Albert Wiker, in August 1900, and while friends were gathering for her funeral, her husband died. Mr. Wiker who was 83, was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, Dec. 25, 1847, and at the age of 4 years came to Muscatine county with his father, John Wiker, a miller, and spent his early life in this community. Mr. Wiker enlisted in the Civil war in 1862 with the Eleventh Iowa infantry and his regiment was immediately ordered south and was in the battles of Shiloh and the siege of Vicksburg. At the close of the war, Mr. Wiker returned to his home near West Liberty where he lived until 1886 when by the means of a team and wagon he traveled to Box Butte county, Nebraska, where he took up a pre-emption homestead, and later moved into the city. Mr. Wiker is survived by two sisters in West Liberty, Mrs. Ida Smith and Mrs. Emma Inghram, besides, Mrs. Ella Hots, Of Ponca City, Okla.; also four brothers, Miller and Will Wiker of Wechance, Wash., West Wiker of Ponca City, Okla., and Ezra Wiker of Bethany, Kas. Mr. Wiker was buried in the blue uniform of the G. A. R. and the American Legion post of Alliance was in charge of the final rites which were held in the Methodist church.
