Alberta Maxine "Bertie" Sedivy was born to Adolph "Swede" and Mary (Fuchs) Sedivy on September 25, 1931, in Spencer, Nebraska. She grew up on the farm with her two brothers, went to country school, and graduated from Spencer High School in 1948. After graduation, Bertie worked at a local bakery/cafe in O'Neill, Nebraska and went to dances on the weekends. This is where she met her husband, Gay Hull. They were married on Bertie's 19th birthday, September 25, 1950, in Spencer. After marriage, Bertie and Gay farmed with his parents until 1955 when they moved to Denver, Colorado. In 1958 they moved back to the farm after the unexpected death of Gay's brother to help out. Bertie and Gay farmed until 1963, moved to Hillsboro, Oregon to continue to raise their family until their retirement in 1993. The couple then moved back to Lynch. Bertie was most at home in her kitchen and loved to cook. She enjoyed getting supper ready and feeding anyone with an appetite. Far and near, friend or foe, all were welcome at Bertie's table, and seconds were expected! There was always enough food to feed the entire town of Lynch, and you'd better leave room for dessert! Bertie was an avid baker. Her specialties included homemade rolls, the black walnut variety, kolaches, angel food cake, and pies. Oh, the pies!! She baked deep dish apple, black walnut cream, peach, coconut cream, which were all Gay's favorites, and cherry, her son-in-law's favorite. When Bertie was not in the kitchen, she was out in her garden picking tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, corn (the honey and pearl variety), and beets for canning and freezing. Bertie's pantry was always full of canned goods of all kinds, including peaches, dill pickles, and sweet and spicy pickled beets, which were some of her grandkids' favorites. Bertie and Gay also knew how to dance their socks off, whether at the Lynch Hall down the street or at a wedding dance. When they were younger, every weekend was spent dancing!! They loved swing and "In The Mood" was a favorite. They also enjoyed waltzes, polkas, and two-step. They were pros at all of them. When not dancing Bertie and Gay had folks over to play cards, including pinochle, pitch, canasta, and shanghai. Whether in Hillsboro or Lynch, all were welcome, and the moment you stepped into their house you could smell the mouthwatering aromas coming from the kitchen, feel the coziness of the room, and feel right at home. Bertie spoiled her grandkids with figurines and baubles from the gift shop, Faces and Vases, where she worked in Hillsboro. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary, always giving a weather report and what she and Grandpa were up to. Bertie was very hard working, strong willed, and passionate. Having lost her one and only love of 70 years on October 6, 2020, she made up her mind to go home to him on Valentine's Day. There is no doubt they are dancing now in Heaven. True love stories never end, so this love story will continue on. Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, Swede and Mary; husband, Gay; sister-in-law, Sybil; and son-in-law, Gordon. She is survived by her daughter, Gaylene Peters of Vancouver, Washington; son, Greg Hull of Lynch; grandchildren, Alyssa and Greg Peters of Vancouver, Jay and Andrya Sauers of Camas, Washington, Kyle and Lindsay Peters of Vancouver, Lex Hull and Heather Doll of Omaha, Clifton Hull of Lincoln, Jaxsen Hull of Lynch, and Shane and Rainey Korte of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Trinity, Bianca, Colton, and Cheyanne all of Vancouver; brothers Wesley Sedivy of Butte, Harlan (Linda) Sedivy of Omaha, and their children Jeff, Lynette, and Brenda Sedivy; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Bertie was an amazing sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and will be forever missed, but forever in our hearts!
