Albina Mitzel, daughter of Katharina (Opp) and Jacob Mitzel, was born June 28, 1923 on a farm north of Eureka. She was raised in Eureka where she attended elementary school. Albina was mentally disabled which prompted her to reside at the State Hospital in Redfield from 1945-1955 and from 1961-1969. From 1955-June 1961, she lived and helped at her sister's - Martha (Morris) Krein's - home. Beginning in 1969 she spent several years at the home of her sister, Irene (Mark) Imberi in Aberdeen. Albina then relocated to Rapid City where she resided in an apartment with limited supervision. She was employed as a housekeeper and also worked with disabled children. While living in Rapid City, Albina's brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Marilyn Mitzel, paid special attention to her. Since August 2006, Albina resided at the Golden Living Center in Milbank where she was very content. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Eureka. She enjoyed going to the dances at the various facilities in which she lived. Albina truly loved children. While living with the Imberi's she was very helpful with the foster children that they took into their home. Also, while living in Rapid City, the care she gave the special needs children was exceptional. Albina is survived by two brothers: Otto (Marilyn) Mitzel of Rapid City and Albert (Della) Mitzel of Turlock, CA; and one sister, Martha (Morris) Krein of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her father on April 2, 1979; her mother on March 2, 1987; her special friend, Harms Tomahawk; two brothers: Milbert and Elmer; five sisters: Emelia Gunsch, Irene Imberi, Lavina Bauer, Edna Glatt, and Alice Heiser.
