He attended elementary school in Weston and graduated from Weston High School in 1947. He served in the United States Navy Reserve for eight years. Havelka, 72, of rural Wahoo died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Saunders County Community Hospital in Wahoo. He was born April 29, 1929, in Weston. He attended elementary school in Weston and graduated from Weston High School in 1947. He served in the United States Navy Reserve for eight years. He married Marcene Wesely April 23, 1952, in Prague. They settled on the farm one mile south of Wahoo where they began Almar Dairy. Following back surgery in 1981, he sold off his 50-cow dairy herd but held back 35 heifers with hopes of re-establishing the herd after his recovery. In February 1983 after a farm mishap, his right leg was amputated and he was forced to have a dispersal sale of his remaining cattle. He was a member and elder of Czech Presbyterian Church in rural Wahoo. He was a member, elder and treasurer of the former Hope Presbyterian Church in Weston until he joined the Czech Presbyterian Church in 1976. He was a member of Hilltop Mariners and served on the executive committee, Dairy Herd Improvement Association and Farm Bureau and served in various offices since joining in 1953. He was also a member of the Production Credit Association and Weston Cemetery committee. Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Curtis (and wife, Jeanne) Havelka of Weston and Ken Havelka of Denver; three daughters, Shelly (Mrs. Jeff) Peterson and Lisa (Mrs. Alvin) Bendig, all of Fremont, and Marcia (Mrs. Chris) Otte of Wahoo; a brother, Joseph (and wife, LaVerne) Havelka of Silver Springs, Md.; a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Jerry) Hampl of Prague; a sister-in-law, Sophie Havelka of Malmo; 14 grandchildren and a stepgranddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Czech Presbyterian Church in rural Wahoo. The Revs. Lonnie Eschliman of Czech Presbyterian Church and Gilbert Larsen of the United Berean Church in Central City will officiate. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and continues one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. An evening service which is open to the public will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Weston Cemetery in Weston. Memorials have been established to Czech Presbyterian Church, St. Elizabeth Hospice of Saunders County or Hour of Power.
