Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 21 at 10:30 AM at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Swanton celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 20 at Gass Haney Funeral Home from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil Service. Alex was born July 6, 1930, in Lindsay, Nebraska, to Thomas and Cecelia (Syslo) Rosenthal. He attended St. Michael Catholic School in Tarnov, Nebraska, and entered the United States Army on July 28, 1952. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and two Bronze Service Stars. Alex was honorably discharged on May 20, 1954, and was transferred to Army Reserve to complete eight years of service under the Universal Military Training & Service Act. On February 16, 1955, Alex was united in marriage to Mary Ann Swerczek at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. They resided in Humphrey, Nebraska, until 1973 when they purchased Diamond Sanitation and moved to Columbus. Alex had a lifelong passion for God, his family and his country. He took great pride in entertaining friends and family especially for holidays including his famous 4th of July parties at Duncan Lakes. Alex enjoyed traveling, fishing, four wheeling, and working at his shop but most important to Alex was attending his grand kid’s activities and being with his family. Alex was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus.
