Vail was born on Sept. 1, 1905 in the Springs Territory area of South Dakota to Albert and Nellie (Munyon) Vail. He lived all but seven years of his life in South Dakota in the communities of Lebanon, Gettysburg and the last 23 years in Spearfish. He farmed... Read More	Alex W. Vail, 101, Spearfish, died Friday, Oct. 13, at the David M. Dorsett Regional Health Care in Spearfish. Alex W. Vail was born on Sept. 1, 1905 in the Springs Territory area of South Dakota to Albert and Nellie (Munyon) Vail. He lived all but seven years of his life in South Dakota in the communities of Lebanon, Gettysburg and the last 23 years in Spearfish. Those years spent away from South Dakota were in California where he operated an outdoor produce market with his brother-in-law. He married Edna E. Allerdings on Oct. 17, 1944 in Gettysburg. He farmed in the Lebanon community until moving to Gettysburg in 1963. He continued to assist area farmers and worked at the Oahe Nursing Home until his retirement. In 1983 they moved to Spearfish and have made this their home until his death. Alex was a very kind man and was deeply respected and admired by his family, friends, neighbors and staff at the David M. Dorsett Regional Health Care. He is survived by his spouse of 61 years, Edna, two sons, Larry (Sandra) Vail, Casper, Wyo.; and Ronald (Jacquelyn) Vail, Broomfield, Colo.; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one sister Margaret Lunda, six sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Alex was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Beverly; three sisters and one brother. Memorial services will be held at the Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish on Monday, Oct. 16, with Rev. Kip Roozen officiating. Graveside and burial will be on Tuesday, Oct.17, at the Lebanon Cemetery at Lebanon. The family requests memorials be given to the David M. Dorsett Regional Health Care Patio Furniture Fund. Condolences may be left at aldingerfuneralhome.com for the family of Alex. The Aldinger Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
