He was confined to his bed only a day or two at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.M. Woodel,though he had suffered with rheumatism and heart for some time. Mr. Jones was 73 years old, and had the distinction of being the oldest merchant here. He had been in business something over twenty-five years in Ramseur. Formerly his store was located on the corner where the Bank of Ramseur now stands, but for the past ten years or more he conducted a general business in "Brooklyn". "Father" Jones as he was called was a man who made friends and numbers them by the hundreds. He leaves one son, John Jones of Greensboro, and one daughter, Mrs. J.M. Woodel, of Ramseur and many other relatives, P.L. Jones, brother of our city, and others of this community. He was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Holiness church here, having been converted years ago and taking great delight in the Lord's work ever since. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Jim Barker of Randleman, assisted by Rev. G.F. Hinshaw and W.A. Elam, of Ramseur, at the Christian church here Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. A large crowd assembled to pay their respects to the memory of this good man. Interment followed in the city cemetery.
