Description	:	Alexander Amundson was born on Sept 1, 1873 in Dramen, Norway. He and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1883. They chose to come to Hudson, SD because other family members had settled there earlier. Shortly after settling in Hudson Alex's mother passed away. His sister Caroline took him in and raised him as her son. Alex grew to manhood in the Hudson area and he worked on the railroad until he was old enough to leave Hudson. Read More	Alexander Amundson was born on Sept 1, 1873 in Dramen, Norway. He and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1883. They chose to come to Hudson, SD because other family members had settled there earlier. Shortly after settling in Hudson Alex's mother passed away. His sister Caroline took him in and raised him as her son. Alex grew to manhood in the Hudson area and he worked on the railroad until he was old enough to leave Hudson. He moved to Vermillion, SD where he worked in the Lee and Prentiss grocery store. While in Vermillion, Alex met Olena Nelson and they were married May 25, 1900. In 1904 Alex and his family left Vermillion to settle in Irene, SD. The family moved to Canton, SD where Alex worked in the store for Mr Puckett and Mr Pidcoe. Alex became a partner with Jack Ryan in the grocery store part of the business. Eventually Alex acquired both the grocery and dry goods businesses and it became Amundsons Store. Alex and Olena's children: Earl Roland, Harold Ervin, Dorothy Margaret, Alice Louise, Gladys Viola, Howard Leroy, Audrey Pauline and Owen Alexander.
