Description	:	Alex was the son of Susanah Whitley and Christian Burris. He was the grandson of George III and Rebecca Cagle Whitley. He took his mother's name of Whitley. Everyone in Stanly County, NC, has heard the tragic story of the lynching of Alec Whitley.∼The story is told that on June 9, 1892, a mob of Stanly Co. and Cabarrus Co. men lynched Alec Whitley on the limb of a red oak ree and he was buried under the tree where he was hanged.
