Description	:	Alex Petry, one of the very last of the original settlers of the Big Sioux Valley in this vicinity, passed away at his home in Union county, six miles southwest of Hawarden, about 1 o'clock Saturday morning. He had been in failing health since last April but his condition did not become really alarming until two weeks prior to his death. His death was attributed to leakage of the heart. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Alex Petry was born at Rutland VT, June 29, 1855, so had reached the age of 71 years, 1 month, and 29 days. With his parents Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Petry, he came to Union County SD in 1866, and his father took up a homestead southwest of Hawarden. When the son became of age he also filed on a homestead in the same neighborhood. He later sold this homestead and purchased the farm on which he has lived for so many yeart. He was united in marriage July 21, 1892, with Miss Anna Kleinhans, who survivies him. Nine children were born to this union, eight of whom survive. The children are Mrs. Alve Ericson of Akron, Thomas, Wendeoo and Miss Kathryn Petry of Dixon SD, and George, Harry, Eva and Margaret Petry at home. the children were all at his bedside when death called him.
