Description	:	Alexander Beatty, Sr., one of the four Beatty brothers, early settlers of this section, died at his home 1 ½ miles west of Cascade Thursday morning, January 10, 1901, from the infirmities of old age. By his death another landmark of the pioneer days is removed from these environments, and a good man called to his reward. Mr. Beatty was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1820 [April 2, 1822] and emigrated to the United States in 1848, coming directly to Iowa, and locating on his late homestead west of Cascade in Richland Township where he resided up to the time of his death. He was married [on November 17, 1852 in Jones County] to Miss MARY SOUTH, who died seven years ago. His children who survive him are John S. Beatty, Alex. Beatty, Jr., Joseph Beatty, Mrs. J. L. Fober of Cascade, and Mrs. Agnes Lee of Muscatine. One son died in infancy. His brothers remaining are David, John, and Dickson Beatty. Decedent was a consistent member of the Baptist Church of this city for half a century, and was a citizen held in highest respect by all who knew him, and his demise at the ripe age of 80 years is the finale of a long life of uprightness and good deeds. He was quite successful as a farmer. Mrs. Beatty was a native of Jones county and was called from earthly scenes in 1894.
