Mr. Cowan was born in Scotland in 1849, making him at the time of his death 52 years of age. Mr. Cowan was born in Scotland in 1849, making him at the time of his death 52 years of age. He came to Rosita 23 years ago and has resided there continuously since, being engaged a greater part of the time in the occupation of mining. He was among the first who were employed on the great Humboldt vein, and was foremost in opening up and developing other great mines of the camp, which made Rosita famous. Of late years Mr. Cowan has been a sufferer from asthma, which had so impaired his constitution as to make it impossible for him to withstand the ravages of pneumonia and when attacked by that dread disease gave up life's battle and has gone to meet his maker. He leaves a wife--daughter of Mrs. Westwater who resides on Brush creek, and cousin to Alex Walker, of this city--and seven children to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and kind father. In his passing to the infinite Custer county, and particularly Rosita, loses a respected and highly esteemed citizen. Our sincere sympathies are extended to the mourning ones in this their sad bereavement.
