SCOTT Mahaska County Pioneer Passes Away at Mahaska Hospital Monday Morning George Scott, of Jefferson Township, passed away Monday morning at 2:30 at the Mahaska Hosital(Abbott Hospital) of several weeks duration. SCOTT Mahaska County Pioneer Passes Away at Mahaska Hospital Monday Morning George Scott, of Jefferson Township, passed away Monday morning at 2:30 at the Mahaska Hosital(Abbott Hospital) of several weeks duration. Mr. Scott was brought to the hospital several weeks ago in critical condition and little hope for his recovery had been entertained. Mr. Scott came to Jefferson township from Washington county in 1887. He settled on his farm and has lived there continously ever since. Mr. Scott is survived by his wife and three boys, John who is married, George and Roy still at home with his mother. He also has one brother, W.A. Scott of Des Moines. George Scott was one of Mahaska's respected citizens. In his home community, he was popular among his neighbors and was a good friend to all. Politically he was a democrat and in early life was very prominent in the councils of his party. He was a man of pronounced convictions, but always respectful of the opinions of others. His advice was always valuable. He was a hard worker, and to this perhaps in measure is due his breakdown for George Scott was only 68 years of age. He will be missed in the community in which he has spent so long a period of his life. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the Coal Creek church in Jefferson township. Abstracted From Washington Iowa newspaper: He leaves,a wife, three sons, John, Roy and George Jr. a daughter-in-law, Rebecca, seven grand children and one brother W.A. Scott of Des Moines. Funeral services were held at Coal Creek Church with Rev Purdy assisted by Rev Mattix in charge of the services. Mr. Jesse Shoemaker, Mrs. Purdy, Mss Lulu Robinson and Riley Littlejohn sang with Bernice Miller accompanist. Flower offerings were sent by Wilcox-Garland. Wilbur Co, W.A.Scott and family, Mr and Mrs GB Coffin and family, Mr and Mrs Owen Hays, Norman Schilling, J.L. Foster, grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs J.G. Patterson and neighbors. Pall-bearers were friends of the family, Ed Havenner,Lod Trotter, Ed Boles, Joe Hyett, Clint Springer and Lawerence Garden
