Description	:	Boone County Democrat January 9, 1913 Alex Starner, a well known Boone county farmer, met with an accident on Thursday about noon, which resulted fatally and death ensued on Friday morning at 2:00 o’clock. Starner resided on the Shelley farm near Moingona and was returning home from this city when the accident happened. Read More	Boone County Democrat January 9, 1913 Alex Starner, a well known Boone county farmer, met with an accident on Thursday about noon, which resulted fatally and death ensued on Friday morning at 2:00 o’clock. Starner resided on the Shelley farm near Moingona and was returning home from this city when the accident happened. When near the foot of the Moingona hill and almost home the horse started to run and the unfortunate man was thrown from the buggy. He struck the ground in such a manner that his head struck a post, which rendered him unconscious. The horse continued on home and the family, realizing that something was wrong, started in search and found Mr. Starner lying by the roadside. He was carried home and medical aid summoned but he never regained consciousness. Alexander Helton Starner was born at Greenup, Cumberland county, Illinois, May 25, 1855, and died from injuries sustained with a runaway horse January 13, 1913, aged 57 years, 7 months and 8 days. Mr. Starner came to Boone county in the year 1877 with his parents and in 1879 was united in marriage to Miss Idella P. Smalley, who still survive him. To them were born eleven children, two having died in infancy, while nine survive. The living are: Rose A., who resides in Shenandoah, Iowa; Thomas W., of Boone; Mrs. Amy L. Porter of Seattle, Washington; Daniel, of Boone; Grace of Minot, North Dakota; David, Louis, Alice and Donald, who reside at home. Mr. Starner was a kind and loving husband and father and was always first to the bedside of the sick when it was possible to render assistance.
