He was loved and respected by his many acquaintances and near neighbors and all will regret to learn of his death. His wife and daughter Mrs. Walter Ferguson, survive him. His funeral was held at home yesterday and it was largely attended. Rev. Clardy officiated. He was buried in the cemetery here by the side of his son and daughter, James and Margaret, and in peace he rests. Contributor: Raymond Riley (47701938) • Oskaloosa Independent, Saturday, 23 July 1892 OBITUARY. Alexander Henderson was born at Mt. Zion, Ohio, Nov. 11, 1821, and died at his home, Dunavant, Ks., July 13, 1892, aged 70 yrs., 8 months and 2 days. When about 20 years of age he was converted and joined the M. E. church of which he remained a consistent and useful member. In his 24th year he married Miss Elizabeth Ekey. The fruits of this union were four children, one son and three daughters. Three of his children crossed the river of death before him. He leaves the wife of his youth, and one daughter, Mrs. Walter Furgeson, a number of grand children and relatives, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. In 1860 he moved to Missouri, remained three years, then moved to the Henderson farm north of Oskaloosa. He soon became known as a substantial farmer, a good neighbor and a true man. His last illness extended over a period of three months: his religious faith never wavered, "My hopes are fixed on the Redeemer," "In my Father's house are many mansions," "Meet me in heaven," were the encouraging words to his family and friends, spoken a short time before death came. The writer conducted the funeral services. A great number of friends formed the procession that followed his remains to the Valley Falls cemetery, where the body was laid to rest along side his children.
