March 15, 1922 - Emmetsburg Democrat - Wednesday evening Alexander Ludington passed away at the home of his son, Louis Ludington of this city, after an illness of five days. He was at Gilmore City visiting his daughter Mrs Debolt and returned home a short time ago. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2:30. Services were conducted at the sons residence and later at the M.E. church. The burial was in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery. The pall bearers were W.E. Jackman, J.E. Leonard, W. H. Knight, Peter Hoelzner, Elmer Ellis, and S.H. Schnetzer. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Alexander Ludington was born at Woolstock, Oxford county, Canada Sept 13, 1831. His age was 91. March 19, 1852 he was united in marriage to Miss Susanna Orsborn. Mr and Mrs Ludington moved from Canada to Illinois in 1879. Ten years later they became residents of Humboldt this state. Several years ago they located on a farm 10 miles south of Emmetsburg. Mrs Ludington died Feb 4, 1908. Mr Ludington subsequently made his home with his daughter Mrs. DeBolt of Gilmore City and his son Louis of this place. Mr Ludington is survived by two sons: Louis of Emmetsburg and James of Meadow, South Dakota and two daughters: Mrs Margaret Goodchild of Valley Junction this state and Mrs Mabel DeBolt of Gilmore City. Six sons and daugthers are dead. There are 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mr Ludington was an industrious frugal farmer and a deserving upright citizen. He was exemplary and obliging and his worth was appreciated by those who knew him. He was a kind devoted husband and a loving provident father. He contributed much during his life of almost a century, to the upbuilding and the development of the central west and he was spared to a ripe old age. General and profound sympathy is extended to the sons and daughters and other relatives.
