Obit: The White River Journal, Dec. 13, 1902, p-3 "WAS ACCIDENTLY KILLED Ran Over by Wheels of the Car While Attempting to Board the Train A shocking accident occured at Upham, about six miles east of Easton last Tuesday afternoon in which A. M. Goldsbary, a well known resident of Kent, lost his life. Mr. Goldsbary was employed by the Northern Pacific as a foreman of the carpenter crew and they have been engaged in building a depot at Upham. It has been a practice of the men when through work for the day to catch a freight train and ride to Easton where they spend the night. On Tuesday afternoon most of the men had taken an early train for that place, but as Mr. Goldsbary had other matters to attend to he with a few others, waited for the later freight, and when it hove in sight he signaled it to slow down so the men could board the train. It was while in the act of getting onto the train that the accident occurred. He attempted to reach the train ladder and his foot slipped, causing him to loose hold with his hand and fall directly under the wheels of the freight, where he was instantly killed, the wheels running over and crushing his arm and chest and a portion of the lower jaw. The remains were shipped to Kent, where they were taken to the Morrill undertaking parlors and prepared for burial. The news of the accident came as a shock to his friends and acquaintances here where he was well known by nearly everyone. Funeral services over the remains were held in Kent Thursday afternoon and were in charge of Verity Lodge No, 59, F. & A. M., in the Masonic hall, assisted by Rev. J. H. Woodley. a large concourse of people followed the remains to their last resting place, where the Masonic fraternity paid tribute to their departed brother. A. M. Goldsbary was born in Wells county, Indiana, September 19, 1853, where he lived until 1869, when with his parents he removed to Strawberry, Kansas. after residing for five years at that place he removed to Blue Rapids, Kansas, where he married two years later to Miss Luvina Williams. In 1889 the family removed to Winlock, this state, where Mr. Goldsbary entered the employ of the Northern Pacific as bridge carpenter and while so employed moved to Kent in 1890, where he has lived ever since. he was the youngest of a family of thirteen children, only two of whom survive him, Truman Goldsbary, of Lewisville, Indiana, and John Goldsbary, of Cincinnati, Ohio. The deceased leaves a widow and six children, Mary, Guy, Maurice, Truman, William and Mrs. F. A. Cloudy to mourn their loss. Mr. Goldsbary was a member of Verity Lodge No. 59, F. & A. M. and also of the United Workmen."
