Alexander Reid, a retired minister of the Church of God, died suddenly yesterday morning at 6:15 at his home, 823 State street, death being due to heart disease. Mr. Reid arose early yesterday rooming and went into the kitchen where the ladies of the house were preparing the morning meal. He walked to the door and commented on the weather and then went, into his room and sat down. When he was called to breakfast at 6:15 it was noticed that his head had dropped to his side and it was found that he was unconscious. Dr. J. H. Reed was called and pronounced it a case of heart failure. Mr. Reid did not regain consciousness and death came at 6:15. Mr. Reid was born March 27, 1844. in Lower Sandusky, Ohio, and was the son of Charles and Susanna (Glaze) Reid. He was one of a family of twelve children—five boys and seven girls. Two brothers, John H. and James Reid, of Logansport are still living, the surviving sisters being Mrs. Rachael Harbert, Idaville; Mrs. Susanna Timmons. Mdnticello, Mrs. Mary Gibson. Logansport. and Mrs. Emma Thompson, Royal Centre. He came with his parents to Cass township, White county, Indiana, in 1847. and became a member of the United Brethren church in 1850. Enlisted as private in Company E, 48th Indiana Volunteers in 1861. He was captured and held prisoner by the enemy and passed through an exciting military experience. He was united in marriage to Susanna McFarland August 30. 1865. The surviving children of this union are Henry J. Reid, of Monticello: Andrew J. Reid, Mrs. Isabelle Squires, A. M. Reid, all of this city. He was ordained a minister of the Church of God at Idaville in 1872, and was actively engaged in the ministry until recently. He leaves thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock from the residence, conducted by Rev. Tracey of Idaville and Rev. McCorkle of Monticello. Burial in the I. 0. 0. F. cemetery at Monticello. The G. A. R. of Logansport win assist at the funeral and the G. A. R. of Monticello will furnish the pall bearers.
