Read More	Sandy McCarthy Loses in Fight Against Death An Acute Attack of Appendicitis Followed by Ruptured Appendix Cause of Death FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY It was with feelings of bitter grief and real disappointment that the parents, relatives, and numerous friends of Alexander(Sandy) McCarthy learned that he was operated on for ruptured appendix. He was stricken while employed at Silver Creek, Neb., and not fully realizing his serious condition, returned to Tilden where his condition was diagnosed as very dangerous and an operation was performed in the hope of saving his life. So serious was his condition that little hope was held for his recovery and he succumbed after putting up a galant fight, and aided by the best that medical skill and careful nursing could perform. Since completing his high school course he was employed as helper with the Chicago and N.W. Railway company, where he endeared himself to the many customers through his kindness and willing service. However for some months he worked for the Ray Anderson road construction company up to the moment that he was fatally stricken. He was a general favorite with everybody and particularly with his school associates and members of local football and baseball clubs. For more than ten years he was a very faithful member of Mt. Carmel Altar Boy's Society, serving around the Santuary not only on Sundays, but practically every week day. He died Saturday evening, October 15th, at the age of 21 years, 7 months and 27 days. Funeral services were held in Mt. Carmel church, Tuesday, October 18th. Requiem High Mass was chanted by the Pastor, Rev. T.O'Sullivan and burial took place in the family lot in St. Mary's cemetery, Tilden. The active pallbearers were his associates of the Altar Society: Tom and Billy Ryan, Pat and Carroll Stanon, James Corkle and Leonard Fillmer. William Brogan, Jr., who drove from Wayne for the occasion was master of ceremonies. His pals were honorary pallbearers: Norman Hansen, Clee Ashburn, Albie Reikofski, Cecil Emrich, Buster Emrich and Wade James. In addition to the large group of local people, several relatives and friends were present from O'Neill, Norfolk and other points. He is survived by his parents, Justin and Mrs. McCarthy, two brothers, Justin Jr., and Johnnie of Tilden and seven sisters, Catherine of Norfolk, Margaret Funk of Clearwater, Sarah LaVelle of Omaha, and Elizabeth, Lucy, Ann and Theresa of Tilden.
